The Niger Delta Avengers attacked NNPC pipeline in Akwa Ibom state in the early morning of June 16 – Some Nigerians while reacting to the news praised the militants, others called on the government stop negotiations with the terrorists The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have launched another attack on an oil installation in Akwa Ibom state. In the early morning of June 16, Thursday, the militants announced they have attacked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline located in Oruk Anam local government area state.

Nigerians immediately reacted to the news, saying that federal government should not consider the dialogue with the terrorists.

Another militant group the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF) had recently announced ceasefire.  The JNDLF had earlier threatened to launch six missiles in the Niger Delta and to also close down Nigeria’s airspace. Announcing readiness to accept federal government’s proposal of talks, the group in a statement at the weekend listed its demands. It demanded immediate release of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser, reversal of the order to freeze the bank accounts of former Niger Delta war lord Tompolo, establishment of Matitime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state, among others. On June 7 President Buhari directed the military to suspend operations in the Niger Delta for two weeks to create a window for dialogue with militants.
