TODAY'S REFLECTION

Reflection

Hi there!

Have you ever been in that situation where
you made this statement “even though you are my sunshine, you have to go“.

The above statement as captured in parenthesis is quite strong yet it takes a stronger mind to make such declarations.

Now let us quickly look at it. For someone or even something to be your sunshine, it means such person or thing has a pride of place in your life. Now many of us feel that true happiness comes from our attachment to certain things or even people, but I tell, it aint true. The power to create fun is within you.

Therefore, happiness is a thing of the mind and not necessarily triggered by external factor(s). It is a personal decision which doesn't need any permission before it can be made manifest.

I remember some years back in my undergraduate days when I had to let go of someone I did love because it turned out our love wasn't mutual (my room mates actually referred to her as my “left ventricle“, hahaha funny right), I almost went mad! Yes! But then someone said something to me that stuck even till today.

She said, ‘Jude, fill yourself first with God‘s love so that even if the world do not love or appreciate you, you have God‘s love to keep you going‘. Those words struck a deep cord in me and since then, I have learned to love myself first before anyone else can. This isn't selfishness so please don't get it twisted.

Again, sometime in 2010, my final year, I was moderating an event for the SUG and we had 4 panelists Prof Kate Omenugha, now Commissioner of Education, Anambra State, Ms Nkolika Obianyo (who eventually supervised my Bsc project), Nonso Smart Okafor, Entrepreneur and Convener, Anambra Youth Summit; and Adaobi Ibeanu - as she then was (she is now Barr. Adaobi Ezeadum).

Now Ms Obianyo made a statement though directed at the ladies but which got me thinking hard. She said “never you think that as a lady, you need a man to be successful“. However feministic that sounded, it made a whole lot of sense to me years later. Success or happiness is a function of personal discipline. Then prayers, then external contributions. This is the order it flows.

He or she may be your ‘Sunshine‘, but believe me when I say even the Sun hurts! So let the Sun give way and you will be amazed at the allure & beauty of the MOON!
