Airtel reduces data tariff for subscribers as competition continues
Airtel is reducing its data tariff to meet competition – The new data plan comes in six variants As stiff competition continues in the Nigerian telecommunication industry, Airtel Nigeria has announced that it is reducing data tariff for subscribers using mobile phones. The downward review is to make its service affordable to its customers, according to the company.
With the new price, 7 gigabytes is now to be bought at N3,500 and for a 30 day period. Chief commercial officer, Airtel Nigeria, Ahmed Mokhles, who spoke on the reduction, said the decision of the company was meant to meet the needs of customers and empower them. He said Airtel Nigeria would continue to maintain its objective of delivering innovative and quality data offering to consumers. According to him, the new data plans come in six variants.
While customers who subscribe to the N100 daily plan will get 30 megabytes, those on the Easy Plan of N500 will get 750MB for 14 days. Customers are also to get 1.5 gigabytes for N1,000; 3 gigabytes for N2,000 and 5 gigabytes for 2,500. The competition among the four big telecommunication companies in the country has forced the prices for the various bundles to drop drastically. Analysts believe that the tariff would continue to drop as the days go by.
For example, MTN and Etisalat recently also reduced their data rates. While MTN now has 4.5 gigabytes for N2,500, Etisalat also has 2.5 gigabytes for N2,000.
